What is the cylinder head?

It is the most important element of the internal combustion engine, closing the top of the cylinders and fixed to the engine block. Its main job is to close the combustion chamber, controlling airflow in and out of the cylinders and the distribution of fuel.

Main components

  • Intake and exhaust ports and valves — let the air-fuel mixture in and out
  • Camshafts — create the movement of the valves
  • Injectors — responsible for injection into the combustion chambers

What can a damaged head lead to?

  • Engine overheating
  • Loss of power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Coolant leaks
  • Difficult engine starting
  • Frequent stalling during operation
  • Further, more serious damage to the head components and the engine block
